With Age comes Wisdom, or does it?

How true is the Oscar Wilde quote – “With age comes wisdom”?

Is every elderly person wise? Is it possible that sometimes age comes alone with no wisdom to offer whatsoever?

You will usually find Wisdom defined as,

the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense and insight.

All the attributes of wisdom can be taught except experience. Experience is definitely not just the number of years, more on this here. So you may have the numbers on your side or in other words you may have age but not necessarily wisdom.

The fact of the matter is that we obtain experiences in a totally different dimension. This dimension is about learning the lessons life has to offer through different experiences – relationships, breakups, screwups, travel, college, profession, business or a concoction of all of them compounded over time. The more people you meet, the more places you visit, the more life experiences you gather. It is possible to age with limited life experiences and thus limited wisdom.

Conclusion? In life, you didn’t come this far only to come this far. Go farther. Happy life experiences!
